David took in a deep breath as he woke the next morning. He could feel Gun stirring behind him. Tom had rolled away to the other side of the bed. David turned to see Gun getting out of bed. “Going somewhere?” David whispered so as not to wake Tom.

“I really need a swim,” Gun said.

“I'll go with you.” David moved to get up.

“No, he shouldn't wake up alone, in our bed. You stay with him. Have a nice lie in.” Gun winked at him.

Gun was right, David had to admit. He rolled back over and scooted closer to Tom as Gun pulled on his swim suit and headed down to the pool.

Soon after Gun left, Tom rolled onto his back and rubbed his eyes.

“Morning,” David greeted him.

Tom looked a little surprised but then recovered. “Hi, where's Gun?”

“He wanted a swim, so he left me here to make sure you weren't alone. How are you feeling?”

Tom grinned. “I'm still good. Thank you again for last night.” He bit his lip like there was something on his mind.

“What is it, Tom?” David encouraged.

Tom seemed to weigh things in his head, and then said, “It's about last night, when you went to your happy place.”

“Yes?” David suspected that Gun had wanted to show Tom what David was like when he went into subspace, but he didn't know why.

“It was very strange at first, to see you go out of it like that, like you didn't even see me.”

“Oh, baby, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you.” David hadn't realized how his state would look to Tom.

“No, don't be sorry. I understand. It was really beautiful. I've never seen two people so completely into each other like that. What's it like?”

“I wish I could describe it. When it first happened, my mind was just blank and it was like being completely lost, only I wasn't afraid, because Gun was there with me. Now I think of it as if I don't exist at all anymore, not as me. In that place, Gun and I are like one. Sometimes Gun tells me of things we did while I'm out of it, and I can sort of remember it, but not like it happened to me, more like it happened to someone else, or like I was watching a video.”

“This never happened before, when you were with someone else?”

“No, it's only ever happened with Gun. I might have been close with some other guys before, but a big part of this feeling is letting go and losing control. That's very scary, and I couldn't bring myself to do it with anyone else. Gun is the first man I've trusted enough to do it, and he is also the first one to encourage me to go there, like he sensed I had it in me. I think it's a sign we're meant to be together. Although, sometimes I wonder why Gun likes to send me into subspace. It's very pleasant for me, but I don't see what he gets out of it.
